Rainforests are often called the lungs of the planet for their role in absorbing carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, and increasing local humidity. Rainforests also stabilise our climate, house incredible amounts of plants and wildlife, and produce nourishing rainfall all around the planet.

Reducing deforestation is a huge priority. We all know this. Yet year after year we seeing less and less meaningful action.

Rainforests help us;

  • stabilise the world’s climate
  • absorb approx 20% of the worlds CO2 emissions
  • provide a home to many plants and animals
  • maintain the water cycle
  • protect against flood, drought, and erosion
  • are a source for medicines and foods
  • support tribal people.

Deforestation is a serious problem to humanity and our ecosystems. And a growing trend of companies are buying “carbon credits” to off set their CO2 emissions. However, a recent study and investigation by the Guardian and a group of scientists have exposed the difficulties in relying on such models. More thought leadership is needed if we are to truly protect our rainforests. Proceeds from Sycomore art sales will help scientists and experts in this space explore new ways to accelerate alternative solutions.

Karen creates mystical patterns to add a magical touch to people’s surroundings. Eye-catching designs usually with crystals, skulls, tropical jungles in teal and runes in her designs but the collections are varied.

She also likes outlined illustrations exploring an apocalyptical scene with tiny skulls, crystals and turquoise glow.  Above all her designs show how nature is and always will thrive, regardless of what we leave behind, it will take time but eventually regulate itself whether we are still here or not.

She knows it’s a grim take but it’s true and her work represents humans and make people realise that we need to coexist with nature, not just TAKE.
